Jazzhus Montmartre

Cafe Montmartre

One of the best-known jazz clubs in Europe during the 1960s, Jazzhus Montmartre hosted the African-American expats in Europe such as Dexter Gordon, Kenny Drew, and Bud Powell. Local bassist Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen got his start here as a member of Powell's trio in 1962. Jazzhus Montmartre changed locations a few times before closing in 1995, but reopened in 2010.

Rust

Rust is where most people head after 00:00 from the many bars above. It is one of the city's best clubs, but also a music stage for rhythmic music concerts several times per week (check website for program).

Café Intime

A really cosy, and as the name suggests; intimate bar, with candle light, coloured lamps and purposely messy decoration. Frequent live Jazz and Classic music acts, which also turns really intimate as there isn't a lot of space, after a piano has been set up. Traditionally a gay bar, but straight customers are neither turned away nor frowned upon. Very friendly staff!

Vinstue 90

Very traditional (and smoky) wine bar with wine, port wine, and slow beer which is poured in exactly 12½ minutes without the use of carbon dioxide. You are allowed to bring food from the nearby smørrebrød store.

Blågårds Apotek

This place is an institution on Nørrebro, and provides good atmosphere, propped up by candlelight and beer. There is Live music going on Thursday-Saturday

A café during daylight, this place morphs into a crowded bar with DJs spinning records during the weekends. Relaxed atmosphere and great for socializing

Pixie

hands some reasonably priced cocktails (a flat 65 kr) over the counter, Outdoor seating on the small square, and brunch, lunch, tapas and an evening menu if you want to fill up your stomach before indulging. Pixie is the name for a series of well known children's books, and the owners have kept true to the name with pretty neat colorful childish interiors.

Drink the house beer 7 Ekspressen, if you drink 10 you get a bronze medal, drink 17 you get a silver medal, 27 you get a gold medal, a great day of fun.

BrewPub

This place has a really nice outdoor beergarden in a courtyard in one of the historic buildings downtown. The menu is specially designed to go well with the beers, that the brewery produces in their own basement. Also has indoor seating.

Cafe Langebro

Established in 1917 and for long a classical Copenhagen bar, now still a relaxed but more modern bar/cafe. Seating both inside and out. Next to the Harbour Park and Bath, which is crowded on warm summer days.

Cafe Svejk

Located at the northern entrance to Frederiksberg Have, this small bar serves Czech Bohemia Regent beer (its own import - the bar is named after a Czech cartoon). Sometimes there are football matches and sometimes there is live music, but that is all rather random.

Funch's Vinstue

Real old-fashioned bar with a good mix of regulars and "poor" student's from the universities. The bar prices are some of the cheapest you get in downtown, and while the place looks pretty run down, the mixed clientele gives it a good atmosphere.

Ideal Bar

It is no longer a bar since 2016. It is now the smallest venue of Vega. Ideal bar is a branch of the Vega nightclub, handing out drinks at street level in the same building, but it is run as a separate outfit, with a bit more appeal to the happening crowd. It is usually too crowded to sit, so only go here early or if you are ready to dance the hours away on the small but usually packed dance floor. Unlike Vega there is no cover charge.

Jolene Bar

Set up by two ambitious Icelandic girls, this club was too loud for its old location on Nørrebro, so it moved its noise and nice vibes here, and continue to be hugely popular, and the DJ line up certainly lives up to the two owners ambitiousness

La Fontaine

Oldest jazz bar with live jazz music. Double up on beer and liquor Monday to Saturday between 20:00 and 22:00.

The Living Room

The Living Room is a nice place in the Latin quarter, with a clean and lean 1st floor, and a more anarchistic but very cosy basement with a fireplace, candlelight, bare massive stone walls and an interesting decoration - Perfect for a cold day. The many coffees are mostly organic, and they also sells beers and cakes. Sometimes there are random, intimate concerts going on the basement.

It hosts a backpackers night, which is sometimes quite lively.

This is a small place, with one of the city's largest selections of beers. The menu is huge and very explanatory. If you're still lost - the clever staff will be able to sort you out. Crammed on weekends.

Cafe 5-oeren was established in 1991 and has its roots in the nearby free air concert venue, 5-oeren. Local and unsophisticated bar. Both smoking and non-smoking rooms.

Cafe Tjili Pop

Small cozy cafe that gets up and going Fridays and Saturdays with live music and a lively, rocking crowd. Their live music quality is rather high, but is free entry.

Cafeen Funke

The rather odd name, comes from a pun in Danish, translating into something like "Will the cafe work?". It is a cheap place, popular with the alternative crowd, and more of bar than a cafe. Sometimes there are live performances.

Great choice of beers, especially British beers and real cask ales. Very popular so you might have to stand on weekends, but lively also on weekdays.

Club Mambo

Copenhagen's main Latin venue, with a large dance floor for salsa dancing, and a lounge bar with a wider variety of music. Free Salsa lessons every Thursday from 20:00-21:00. It is totally random whether the place is jam packed or really quiet.

Culture Box

Culture Box is the flagship of the electronic music scene in Copenhagen, and is immensely important for the local development of the genre. Mixes superstar DJs with local talent. Usually a friendly, open crowd, and non commercial music blasting out the speakers.

Get some drinks and play round-the-table ping-pong or table-soccer all night long. When you had enough, turn in your bat for a free drink and head downstairs for a more traditional bar setup.

Eiffel Bar

Eiffel bar has something of a 1930s Paris feel to it, although the Can Can girls has disappeared since the place it opened in 1736. The crowd here is as diverse as the district, but definitely not pretentious.

Guldfasanen

A local watering hole, popular with students from the nearby CBS university, but also with local alcoholics who are mostly there for the cheap beer, while students prefer the basic but very reasonably priced cocktails and "kander" (a cocktail pitcher for 145-189 Kr). This place for heavy drinking and smoking.
