Franklin Square

This oak-lined public space in Central Hobart is named after the explorer Sir John Franklin. Between voyages, he served as Lieutenant-Governor of Van Diemen's Land (as Tasmania was then known) from 1837 to 1843. The centrepiece of the park is a statue of him, with an epitaph by Alfred, Lord Tennyson.
