Lady Franklin Gallery

Ancanthe

Built by Lady Franklin, wife of the governor, in 1842 at her own expense in the style of a Greek temple, the Gallery was entrusted to a local society but neglected for decades after Lady Franklin departed Tasmania, until it was finally handed to the Art Society of Tasmania and since 1948 it has been lovingly restored by the Art Society of Tasmania and now hosts rotating exhibitions of local art.
