The Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe honors Mexico's most popular saint and is the destination for religious pilgrimages by faithful from every corner of Mexico and beyond. The Basilica area includes several chapels that are worth visiting in their own right. These include Capilla el Pocito, Parroquia de Capuchinas, Capilla del Cerrito and Capilla de Indio. Be sure to check out all of the chapels, as they are each beautiful in a different way, some with spectacular frescoes and sculptures. Mass at the New Basilica is celebrated hourly from 06:00 to 20:00 every day, and is generally packed (the building seats 10,000 and the atrium fits 40,000 for special events), especially on Sundays. December 12 is the annual saint's day celebration for the Virgen of Guadalupe and elaborate festivities lead up to the feast day. It's a spectacle to see if you don't mind enormous crowds.
